Welcome to the Navajo Sustainable Agriculture Project webpage, we have established this webpage to serve as a central location for our program material and local agriculture program updates for our producers.

The Navajo Sustainable Agriculture Project (NSA Project) is a New Mexico Cooperative Extension Service (NM-CES) initiative delivered in collaboration with the Diné College Land Grant Office (DC-LGO) and Community Outreach & Patient Empowerment (COPE) Program, and the San Juan, McKinley, and Cibola County Extension Offices. The project is funded by USDA’s Outreach and Assistance for Socially Disadvantaged Farmers and Ranchers and Veteran Farmers and Ranchers (OASDVFR) Program.

The NSA Project goals:

  • Improve the operations, profitability, and sustainability of socially disadvantaged Navajo farmers and ranchers and veteran farmers and ranchers (Navajo SDFR&VFR).
  • Increase Navajo SDFR&VFR knowledge and use of USDA (NRCS, FSA, RD, and RMA) programs and services and those of other resource providers.
  • Increase the local production and consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables and healthy food by Navajo families and individuals.

To accomplish these goals the NSA Project is committed to providing our producers with workshops, webinars, conferences, monthly newsletters, annual resource fairs, field days/demonstrations, individual technical assistance with production, management, marketing, and financing issues, completing BIA and other natural resource conservation plans, farm and ranch plans, and assisting farmers/ranchers’ complete applications for USDA programs and services and other resource providers.
